People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care
Theodore Roosevelt
The last 24 years have brought me a wealth of experience coaching hundreds of athletes in tennis and cycling, in both individual and team settings. We have worked together for success at local, state, and national levels. Throughout this journey, I have learned from both mistakes and successes. I work to bring this knowledge and wisdom to bear in my daily coaching.
As an athlete, I have participated in many cyclocross, mountain bike, gravel, and ultra-distance events (bike-packing and winter ultras). Most recently I have spent my time riding mountain bikes, racing gravel, embarking on winter ultra rides/races, and doing as much long-distance bike-packing as I can. During this time, I began to develop the Cornerstone of my career, the Four Corners of Coaching.

At CornerStone Coaching, we place a paramount emphasis on the deep knowledge of the sport and its training methodologies. Our coaches are not just enthusiasts; they are experts who have dedicated years to studying the intricacies of the sport, staying abreast of the latest research and trends in training techniques. This expertise allows them to design programs that are scientifically sound, innovative, and tailored to the unique physiological and psychological needs of each athlete. Our coaching philosophy is grounded in a blend of foundational principles and cutting-edge practices, ensuring athletes receive training that is not only effective but also safe and sustainable.
We recognize that true success extends far beyond the podium. At CornerStone Coaching, we adopt a holistic approach that considers the whole person, focusing on mental health, personal growth, and life balance alongside physical training. Our goal is to foster well-rounded individuals who excel in their sport while maintaining healthy, fulfilling lives outside of competition. We understand that each athlete brings their own set of dreams, challenges, and life circumstances to the table. Thus, we strive to support them in achieving their personal best, not just in terms of athletic performance but in every aspect of their lives.
Integrity forms the cornerstone of our coaching philosophy. CornerStone Coaching is unwavering in its commitment to do what is best for each athlete, even when it’s not the easiest or most popular path. This principle guides every decision we make, from training adjustments to competition strategies. We believe in honesty, transparency, and putting the well-being of our athletes at the forefront. Whether it’s modifying a training plan to prevent injury, or making tough calls in the athlete’s long-term interest, our coaches are dedicated to ethical practices that prioritize the athlete’s health, aspirations, and personal development.
The foundation of any successful coaching relationship is great communication. At CornerStone Coaching, we foster an environment where open, honest dialogue between the athlete and coach is not just encouraged—it’s essential. We believe that effective communication is a two-way street, requiring active listening, empathy, and respect from both parties. This approach allows us to better understand each athlete’s goals, fears, and feedback, leading to more personalized coaching strategies and a stronger coach-athlete bond. It also empowers our athletes to take an active role in their training, making them partners in the journey toward their goals. Great communication is the key to unlocking the full potential of our athletes, and it’s something we practice every day at CornerStone Coaching.
