Our goal is to develop an athlete-centered training system that will improve your performance and help you reach your goals. We will develop a comprehensive plan that looks at you as a whole person and not just an athlete. You have a unique biology, unique psychology, and a unique social/family environment. What works for others may not be best for you.
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems”
James Clear
We will have an initial phone consultation to learn about you as a person and an athlete. What have you done in the past and where do you want to go? What motivates you? What do you feel your strengths and weaknesses are? What are you looking for in a coach? (etc) We will discuss your goals and sketch a quick outline for how I can help you progress towards improved performance.
We will use Training Peaks as our platform for custom daily workouts and feedback. A Premium Training Peaks account is included. Workouts will progress according to the best science and evidence available to help you achieve the physiological adaptations you need. We will include both cycling and strength sessions. Workouts will be varied to keep things fresh and interesting while progressing towards your fitness goals.
You will need some type of device (watch or bike computer) that can upload to Training Peaks. All workouts will use heart rate (you will need a chest strap as the wrist based readings are not very accurate). You will need a cadence sensor (we can start without one at first). If you have a power meter we will use that as well, but it is not required.
Meeting your goals requires confidence. Confidence requires evidence. Together, we will set performance and process goals to help you build the mental confidence you need to succeed. We will also discuss strategies to help you build the mental fitness and strength to achieve your goals. Once again, your needs in this area are unique and what we work on will be specific to you.
Monitoring resting heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV) is quite useful in helping us manage recovery and stress. Athletes that have a device capable of measuring this such as Whoop, Oura, or the HRV4Training App, etc. HRV4Training is by far the least expensive option of the three ($9.99 one time cost). If you are unfamiliar with this we can discuss it. This is not required but is incredibly useful.
Life happens and our schedules can change unexpectedly. Our primary communication will be via text if you need to swap workouts around or have questions. We do not limit the amount of communication per month.
